Targeted Explanations for Predictive Models in Personalized Cancer Biology

The proposed research project aims to analyze cancer patients’ genomics and clinical data to enhance the understanding of cancer biology and assist personalized medicine decisions. The data analysis will be performed by utilizing state-of-the-art Machine Learning (ML) methods as well as the methods of eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI). One of the main goals of the research project is to move forward the translational potential of XAI in cancer biology to promote the development of truly individualized medicine by delivering patient-specific biomarkers, meaning that treatment options can also be suggested on a patient-specific level. Individualized treatment options could improve patients’ clinical outcomes, which could lead to a significant positive social and economic impact.
